CURRICULUM FOR SCHOOL YOGA PROJECT:

The curriculum has been designed based on the needs of kids in different ages and standards. The need for the growth and development of a particular cognitive faculty like concentration, memory, creativity and management of emotions like anger and stress in the students based on their age has been considered and emphasised while retaining the holistic and integrative approach of Yoga.

The curriculam has the following components:

  • Fourfold Consciousness – Civic Sense, Patriotic Fervour, Service Zeal and Spiritual urge

METHODOLOGY OF YOGA TEACHING:

As Yoga is a unique subject of practical discipline aiming at the holistic well being of the students, a non conventional unique approach of teaching and imparting Yoga has to be adopted to suit the needs of the students of different ages and standards.

The teaching methodology involves:

  • Interactive mode of teaching
  • 8 step methodology of teaching Yoga techniques:
  • Introducing asanas by explaining the meaning of the names and structure- comparing the name with the source of the posture from nature and giving the connection
  • Demonstration with counts, emphasis on the breathing and postural perfection

  • Key points to remember
  • Class practice – 2 group practice
  • Corrections
  • Interactions- Q & A
  • Final full class practice
  • Chanting of Sanskrit Yogic Mantras and Sanskrit names of Yoga techniques

STRUCTURE OF EVERY SESSION PLAN

Every session will be conducted in the following format:

  1. Building up an interaction with the students to create interest in the days practice
  2. Commencing Prayer chanting
  3. Warm up – Shithila Karana Vyayama
  4. Breathing – Svashya Kriya
  5. Talk on Personality Development and other themes
  6. Surya Namaskara- variations
  7. Asanas – Standing, sitting, prone & supine: cultural, relaxative & meditative
  8. Pranayama
  9. Dhyana -Meditation
  10. Memory Songs, Games
  11. Closing Prayer Chanting
  12. Occasional other group or team activities
ASSESSMENT MECHANISM

Assessment of the performance and progress of each student will be done through the following mechanism:

  • Assessing the level of postural perfection by individual demonstrations
  • Faculty assessment by observation of behaviour and involvement in class
  • Assessment of cognitive faculty development through pre & post tests involving psychological testing tools and questionnaires
  • Encouraging in Yoga Demos and competitions to imbibe the spirit of doership and motivation
  • Quiz to assess the understanding of the concepts and philosophy of Yoga
  • Assessing the participation in thematic and group activities
